What is Moose and why is it the future?

February 20, 2009

This was the title for the London Perl Mongers technical talk held last night at the BBC offices in White City.

And I was there! This is the first time I’ve dipped my toe into the London Perl Mongers world (in a corporeal sense that is… I do frequent the London.pm mailing list and have occasionally raised my head above the parapet there πŸ˜‰ )

I went along because wanted to experience a real life Perl event and I have to say I was very impressed. The event was extremely well produced & organised in nice plush/swanky offices with high tech presentation and with a well attended (40+) & diverse audience being treated to some excellent presentations using the right mix of technical details & joviality… ie. a fun learning experience.

I particularly enjoyed Piers Cawley talk. Originally titled “Moose for Ruby programmers” we quickly found this was just slight bum steer to giving a provocative & insightful MooseX::Declare talk

NB. and also extremely entertaining talk! we now all know what the sign language is for moo sex πŸ˜‰

I certainly hope to make more London.pm events in the future. At the moment their regular socials conflict with my personal calendar… however I’ll be doing my best to wriggle out of some of those πŸ˜‰

So what about Moose? Well the event for me wasn’t about learning Moose because I was sold on it ages ago. So its good to see it spreading even further in the Perl consciousness & community.

So to me its Moose is here.

And if you want an additional soundbite then it would be … and MooseX::Declare is the future.
